Nutella as one of the most consumed spread in the Unites States has been asked by the FDA to change the serving size.  As the way Nutella was made is not consumed by its purpose.

The Food and Drug Administration of FDA is studying to petition Nutella in reducing their serving size. From two tablespoon they were asked to reduce it to one tablespoon. It has been seen that Nutella has been used more often in toast, bread, and pancakes. If the decision will push through, it would cut half the calories and the fat that consumers most likely see in the brand's back label.

Ferrero, the known maker of Nutella, see that their product is now used as a breakfast replacement for syrup and butter or it is being combined with fruit and bread. The Italian company, in 2014 has long sent a petition to FDA that the serving size will be changed to 1 tablespoon instead of the usual 2, according to CNN.

After receiving the petition, the FDA then researches the manner on how was the product consumed. As of now, it is still under the analysis. From intended use going to the typical consumption, the FDA is still investigating.

Granting the petition, the consumers will only see half of the 200 calories and 11 grams of fat attached on the label. As a matter of fact, some countries are already using the one tablespoon serving. These are countries such as Australia, France, and the U.K., according to Nasdaq.

In line, Nutella was part of the "other dessert toppings" category back in 1993. But, today Nutella has a different purpose. In a survey last 2012, 74 percent was found that Nutella is being used on bread, and only two percent of its consumer used it as an ice cream topping.
