Record Rise In North Pole Temperature: Experts Warn Of Climate Change And Heatwave
- comments
There is no doubt that North Pole is experiencing a hard time this year. In fact, the Arctic region is likely to experience a heatwave, whereby the temperature is expected to go beyond 20 degrees than what it usually remains in December.
According to the New York Times, the average Arctic temperature in the month of November and December were over 5 degrees than the average. This was shown during an investigation that showed if man made global warming was the main reason behind the warming of the Arctic region.
However, it was assumed that the chances of such temperature fluctuations, during the industrialization period were so small that it made an estimation difficult. As per BBC, the Arctic temperatures were likely to rise above 0 degrees on the Christmas.
Interestingly, with such change in temperature and with all the global warming issues, Santa Claus had to change his route of the journey. Why so? Well, the North Pole is entirely covered with ice and with the ice melting, one can understand the difficulty that the old man might face.
As per National Snow and Ice Data Center In Boulder, CO, Mark Serreze, during this of the time the ocean starts giving out heat in the form of infrared radiation. What happens is that some of these heat gets trapped in the greenhouse gas and water vapor in the atmosphere. But the Arctic is witnessing an unnatural and unexpected rise in temperature, unlike any other year.
Some group of scientists assumed that one of the reasons for the rise in temperature might be due to the building up of air pressure over the region of Scandinavia, which brought about the warm air flow between Norway and Greenland.
The rise of North Pole temperature has been studied by several scientists, one of whom is Dr. Friederike Otto who also mentioned that if the rise in temperature around the North Pole continues it might expect heatwave, without doubt.
