HTC is currently working on its second generation exceptional Vive VR headset and as per rumors, it would be launched at CES 2017. Consumer Electronics Show will be held in Las Vegas from 5 to 8 January 2017.
The original HTC Vive was first unveiled at Mobile World Congress in 2015. However, HTC appears to have a different strategy for CES 2017. As per BGR, reports suggest that the second generation Vive 2 VR headset will be launched with upgrades in terms of its design and features.
As per the reports, HTC Vive 2 will use a wireless transmitter to be able to connect with PC. However, HTC has started preorders to grant the same feature to the current HTC Vive models with the upgradable kit.
As stated in the Digital Trends, the Vive 2 is expected to come with two 4K screens with a refresh rate of 120Hz which is more than the rate of 90Hz on the current model or 1080p for each eye.
Built-In wireless transmitter will allow users to use HTC Vive without being worried about getting tripping over the cables and as well as rumored 4K displays would help in improving the sharpness.
However, the Vive 2 might still require a PC to use it. Interestingly, there have been rumors that HTC could be introducing new controllers for the virtual reality headsets.
The Vive 2 is also expected to be a Smartphone based headset which is similar to the Google daydream View and Samsung Gear VR.
According to the reports, features of Vive 2 are possible but it's doubtful because of current generation landscape, even powerful PCs have a tough time to keeping up with virtual reality.
Considering the rumors, it would undoubtedly be a bold move from Taiwan-based HTC to introduce a brand new next generation Vive VR headsets at CES 2017.
