Samsung Galaxy S5 On Sprint Gets A December Security Update[VIDEO]

The carrier, Sprint started rolling December security update on the Samsung Galaxy S5 last week, though Sprint didn't confirm this officially.

As per GSM Arena, the update assumed the build version G900PVPU3CPL2 with a size of 237MB will address a host of security issues on the device. The update also includes some fixes and system improvements on the hardware.

Samsung Galaxy S5 launched in April 2014 in the US. It is appreciable that even after close to three years, the device is getting periodical updates. The last security update was received in November 2016.

The December Android Security Maintenance Release (SMR) package contains 81 security patches for Google Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE), and around 15 security patches for Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE). The December security update has already been received by several users as reported in Galaxy S5 Update. But, not all users have received it. The update is sent Over-The-Air (OTA) in a phased manner.

Users are advised to check their notification bar for the security update. In case the user has not received, the update can be checked manually on the Samsung Galaxy S5 device by following the steps given below.

The update can also be downloaded through Kies or Smart Switch for PC. Users can only get this update only if the device was not rooted or already running on a modified software. If it is rooted, then unroot the device before trying to update the new software update.

The 5.1-Inch smartphone launched at MWC 2014 in Barcelona, Spain was updated with Android Marshmallow 6.0 in June, 2016.
