Google's Virtual Mobile Network Project Fi Extends Its Referral Program
- comments
In December 2016, Google had launched Project Fi referral program as an annual holiday gifts to its subscribers. Project Fi is a virtual mobile network which aims to unify the wireless network of the world. Through Project Fi, Google offers wireless phone and data services using Wi-Fi and cellular networks of US Cellular, Sprint, T-Mobile and Three. The referral program received such a huge response that Google has now extended it indefinitely.
The Tech Times reported that offering $20 to the existing customer base for referrals worked quite well for the company. Both the referrer and the one who is referred receive a $20 bill credit on every new subscription. The process to refer a friend or a family member is quite easy. Each customer gets a unique referral code which appears at the bottom of the Fi app screen as well as in their website account. Anyone who subscribes to Project Fi using that code is considered as a referral of the customer.
9to5 mentions that there are certain conditions that need to be met, though. One customer can get a maximum of 10 referral credits. Both the referrer and referee need to have an active Project Fi account. The referee's account should have been active for at least 30 days and he or she should have paid for at least two months of service.
Project Fi is available in 135 countries. Its monthly plans are based on flat rates. The customers availing the plan have to pay $20 per month at the start of the billing cycle to receive unlimited voice and messaging services. If a user fails to use his allotted data of 1 GB, the amount corresponding to it gets credited in the next invoice. Both unused and extra data is priced at $10 for 1 GB.
Originally, it was announced that the Project Fi referral program will remain valid till January 11. However, the sign-up page is still active. Google Support confirmed that the company has extended the program for an indefinite period. The terms and conditions of the referral program state that Google may withdraw the program whenever it chooses to do so but it seems highly unlikely anytime soon.
