"The Lion King" is acquiring a live-action remake, and Donald Glover is set to play Simba. The "Star Wars" franchise actor James Earl Jones will repeat his part for the voice of Simba's father, Mufasa.
The Disney's 1994 animated film will be reigned by "The Jungle Book" director Jon Favreau, Digital Trends reported. The movie maker latterly exposed the first two casts joining the film. The studio is considering some well-known faces and voices for the cast of "The Lion King."
According to Entertainment Weekly, Director Favreau announced the casting on Twitter, Friday, Feb. 17 presenting photos of the two actors. His revelation comes along which role they will play in "The Lion King."
The remake presses the studio to make its traditional animated version into live-action features. The live-action plan has been proven as a winning approach after all as with "Alice in Wonderland" in 2010 grossing over $1 billion globally.
Additional films that succeeded the strategy are the 2015 "Cinderella" garnering $543 million, and the "The Jungle Book" as their lead with over $966 million earnings. "The Lion King," gained over $968 million during its 26-week big-screen appearance. That in return making the film highest-grossing animated stories of all time. Matthew Broderick played as the voice of Simba in the 1994 movie.
The film won Academy Awards for Elton John and Tim Rice's song "Can You Feel the Love Tonight." The 1994 version of "The Lion King" also took the trophy for Zimmer's score.
Meanwhile, there no release date yet for "The Lion King" remake. However, Glover will probably start working on the project soon after he is done filming on the forthcoming, still-untitled Star Wars movie.
Disney declared "The Lion King" project in September after Favreau updated "The Jungle Book" and turned to being a box-office hit. The new film is projected to utilize a performance-capture system.
"The Lion King" remake is also possible to enforce computer-generated imagery to deliver its animal characters to life. The songs from the original movie will be included as well.
