Red Wine Substance Creates Breakthrough to Slow Down Brain Aging
- comments
Red wine is good for the health, but this time a substance of it can slow the brain aging. Scientists have revealed that the substance keeps the brain young.
The Independent reported that grapes, mulberries, and blueberries are the key ingredients to produce red wine. Now a substance called resveratrol is present in the skin of these fruits and helps to protect the connections between the neurons in the brain. Researchers at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute have recently discovered this fact.
Resveratrol also keeps the muscle fit and flexible. Researchers performed some tests on elderly mice and found that resveratrol preserved the synapses or the essential neuromuscular junctions. That means drinking red wine must produce a healthy brain condition.
Red wine produces better synapses to maintain the perfect communication between the brain and the muscle. It can transfer the movement signals from the brain to the muscles. Scientists gave resveratrol to the one-year-old mice.
The mice showed better synapses at the age of two. Assistant Professor Gregorio Valdez, the primary author of the study, has opined that this research must help to stop the aging of the neuronal circuits. Red wine is a better source of resveratrol than the white wine.
Assistant Professor Gregorio Valdez reveals that simple wine contains a very lower amount of resveratrol. On the other hand, red wine provides sufficient amount of the said substance to produce more benefits to keep the brain young. Professor Valdez says that the next aim is to discover the mechanism that helps resveratrol to slow the brain aging.
The mechanism is the key factor to protect the synapses. Oxford Academic reported the complete story through the Journals of Gerontology, Series A. Red wine is obviously a preferable choice for many wine lovers.
Maintaining a good communication between the brain and the muscle is not an easy task. Now red wine has proved its ability to maintain that communication. More research can produce more results and can explore new dimensions in this arena.
