Bobby Brown announced last Monday through his lawyer Christopher Brown that his 22-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown is awake.
According to an unnamed source mentioned in CNN, Bobbi Kristina Brown managed to open her eyes but still remains unresponsive even though the 22-year-old is no longer sedated or in a coma. The source adds that she does not respond to outside stimuli such as voices or seeing other people or visitors. She also has a wears a tracheostomy on her throat to help her breathe.
The statement from the Brown family was released to clarify the R&B singer's emotional statement during a concert last weekend. He told the crowd that Bobbi Kristina was "awake," and that "she [Bobbi Kristina] was watching me." It was not made clear at that time whether his daughter's condition has improved.
"Doctors have indicated that she will have a long life," attorney Christopher Brown said to CNN. "However, Bobbi Kristina is presently embarking on a rehabilitation process and the quality of her life will not be known for years to come."
"We thank everyone that supports Bobbi Kristina and God is hearing our prayers," Atty. Brown said.
The daughter of Brown and the late Whitney Houston remains in a care facility in Georgia and her current condition is still not clear. According to PEOPLE, the R&B singer was spotted meeting with his daughter's doctor last Monday. He also spent several hours visiting her.
Alicia Etheredge-Brown, Bobby Brown's wife, said in a statement reported by Chron that her husband "made an attempt to correct the negative comments he must endure on a daily basis from both family and the public regarding his daughter's medical condition."
"He is encouraged by the steps that Bobbi Kristina has made since her hospitalization on January 31, 2015," she said. "She has made it out of ICU, opened her eyes, and started a rehabilitation that will be long and hard."
Last January 31, Bobbi Kristina was found unconscious and lying face down in a bathtub of her home in Roswell, Georgia. The extent of the damage in her brain from the lack of oxygen was unknown and she was put under a medically induced coma to help her heal from her injuries. In February, her doctors tried to wake her from her condition but put her back into coma after she reacted with violent seizures.
