NBA Playoffs Live Stream & Preview - Cavaliers vs Hawks Game 1: Kyrie Irving Injury to Affect Cleveland?
- comments
Kyrie Irving, Cleveland's point guard, will play in Game 1 despite sitting out during last Saturday's practice due to his injuries.
Irving suffered knee tendonitis and the injury worsened during the Cavalier's Game 6 win versus the Chicago Bulls. According to SB Nation, Irving left during the second quarter last week and returned but wasn't allowed by Cav's coach David Blatt to be in the game.
"He's going through a lot of treatment and we're monitoring and just hoping that he progresses from here until game time," Blatt said.
"We determined that he's going to rest and going forward, (he is) day-to-day. We'll see how he's feeling and what we can do with it," the coach added. "We're very much on top of this obviously and Ky is doing everything he possibly can to get well."
With Irving well-rested over the weekend, he was allowed to practice the entire day on Monday.
"I'm going to go," Irving told Oregon Live, referring to Game 1 against the Atlanta Hawks.
"Just being able to actually feel both my feet underneath me, especially when I'm shooting, it feels amazing," he added. "I don't want to be on the sideline at all, especially preparing for a big stage like this."
"This is the biggest stage that you want to be part of," Irving said, referring to the playoffs. "Obviously people strive in the regular season to get to the playoffs and now I see absolutely why. There's nothing like the playoffs. Nothing at all."
Irving's improved condition elicited an ecstatic LeBron James.
"He feels better," said James. "Obviously the days have helped him. You know, we really don't know until we get out there on Wednesday. The good thing is he's positive, he's feeling better, and that's positive for our team."
Coach Blatt also gushed about Irving's injury saying: "Look, today is Monday. I told you a few days ago that I expect he'll play. It's just good to see that he's making some progress. He's not there 100 percent yet, but he's making progress and that's a very good sign. I'm hopeful."
