Michael Schumacher Condition Update: 6 Things We Know So Far
- comments
Legendary F1 racing champion Michael Schumacher's condition is still unclear as his wife, Corinna, ordered a media black out to protect their family's privacy.
Schumacher got into a major skiing accident last December 2013. He had to undergo emergency surgery, and he was placed under a medically induced coma after obtaining severe head injuries.
Earlier, Latinos Health reported that Michael has woken up from coma but remained mute, unable to walk, and his progress was touted to be "painfully slow" according to an insider.
As of writing, there is no official statement from the family or representatives of Schumacher regarding his current condition; however, here are six things we know so far about the racing champ's ordeal:
1.) In June 2014, Schumacher left the Grenoble Hospital in France for the University Hospital of Lausanne in Switzerland, where he reportedly received 24/7 care from a team of health care practitioners. According to the International Business Times, the champion even woke up from his 189-day coma.
2.) The Schumacher matriarch oversaw the renovation of the family's Swiss mansion for Michael's homecoming. Daily Mail has learned that the family spent £10 million to build a suite equipped with necessary medical facilities to support the needs of the retired German racing driver. Rolf, Michael's father, reportedly moved in to help in taking care of the 46-year-old Formula One champ.
3.) During the one year anniversary of the accident, there were rampant speculations about Schumacher's bleak condition. However, the family, friends, supporters and fans of the seven-time world champion continued to cheer on for his recovery. According to CNN, Michael's wife and kids, Gina Marie and Mick, maintained their silence during the anniversary.
4.) Several reports claim Corinna has already accepted her husband's fate. She already sold Schumacher's private jet for £25m and sold off their Norway home as well, according to the UK Mirror. Corinna is also considering selling the family's place in Meribel, France, where her husband reportedly sustained his serious brain injuries.
5.) Meanwhile, UK Express reports Schumacher is still being cared for 24/7 by a medical team consisting of 15 staff, as advised by Professor Jean-Francois Payen, who operated on the champ following the ski accident. Thus far, the total cost of Schumacher's care is said to be at a whopping £10 million or $15.4 million.
6.) Finally, Schumacher's manager, Sabine Kehm, has released a statement claiming the German racer's health is "improving," but "the road is still very long." According to FormulaSpy.com, Sabine is also managing Mick, the 16-year-old son of Michael who is also a racing driver.
