- comments
The "How to Train Your Dragon" franchise have introduced a variety of dragons in the first and second movies. Could we be seeing new ones in the third movie?
Much has been speculated about "How to Train Your Dragon 3," which will be released on June 29, 2018 in the US, especially on its plot and storyline. But one thing is for sure: fans will be getting a new set of dragons to behold at the movies.
We're very much familiar with Night Furies, Gronckles, Nadders, Nightmares, Barf & Belch's and Zipplebacks in the first movie. In the second movie, we were then introduced to the Changewings, Cloudjumpers, Hookfangs, Fireworm Queens, Death Songs, Meatlugs, and even the fearsome Drago's and Valka's Bewilderbeasts.
According to the movie's official Dragonpedia, there are nearly 40 identified dragons in both the movies and the game. Since there are plenty of dragonlore all over the world, what kind of dragons can we be seeing in the next film?
1.) The Bakunawa
The Bukanawa or Bakonawa is a mythical dragon coming from the Philippine shores. It is depicted as a sea serpent-like dragon with claws, fangs and scales. It is believed to be the cause of eclipses, according to GMA Network. In "How to Train Your Dragon 2," we've seen Hiccup, Toothless and the Vikings of Berk battle against Valka and his fearsome Bewilderbeast dragon. Will the dragons and men team up again to defeat the powerful Bakunawa?
2.) The Cuélebre
This dragon hails from Asturian mythology and is considered to be a dangerous dragon. According to Linkmesh, the Cuélebre is immortal and has a penchant for liking and hoarding beautiful treasures in a cave. Speaking of a cave, Hiccup and friends have already ticked off the cave scenario. If a Cuélebre may appear in the third movie, it could be keeping a maiden captive since these creatures are also known for doing such.
3.) Chuvash Dragon
These dragons are of Russian descent. They are capable of breathing fire, have more than one head and have the ability to change from dragon to human. According to the Astral Society, Chuvash dragons take the human form to be able to visit and sleep with men or women. It would be interesting to have a storyline regarding Hiccup's affinity with befriending dragons. What if the reason for his expertise with dragons is because he is part-dragon all along?
