'Xena: Warrior Princess' NBC Series Reboot: Lucy Lawless to Reprise Role [Rumors]

A modern remake of "Xena: Warrior Princess" may grace our television screens once more after twenty years.
"Xena: Warrior Princess" was first showed on air on Sept. 4, 1995, according to its IMDB page. Since it ended in 2001, fans around the world have been clamoring about a movie, saidLucy Lawless, who played the princess warrior, according to a news published by The Hollywood Reporter.
Sources told the website that NBC and NBC Universal are slowly making the series come to life once again and are currently looking for a writer to be involved in the project. The original executive producers of the action-adventure drama, Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, Lawless' husband, are also helping in the development of the show.
According to Business Standard, the "modern reboot" is rumored to be released in 2016 but it is still uncertain if the season will have 13 or 24 episodes.
In addition to being asked a lot of news about Xena, Lawless has also been a very vocal and fierce campaigner for the revival of the show.
"I don't know what the holdup is," Lawless told HitFix when she was interviewed during this year's San Diego Comic-Con. "It's about who's got the rights [to the series]. But that's a piss poor excuse anymore. I think they just...find who's got the rights. Freakin' pay it. It's better to have 80 percent of something than 100 percent of nothing. Don't waste this opportunity. Reinvigorate that franchise...They're fools not to bring it back."
Xena first appeared in "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" and was supposed to die after one episode, according to LA Times. However, her popularity prompted the creation of her own spinoff series. Xena was given a sidekick by the name of Gabrielle (played by Renee O'Connor) as a travel companion, to help fight against evil and to keep the warrior princess in the path of good.
In THR's report, the modernized series might have a Xena with the wiliness of Katniss Everdeen from the "Hunger Games." However, it is unclear if Lucy Lawless is to reprise her role as the beloved Xena. According to The Verge, sources say they want Lawless to be in the production whether as one of the characters or behind the scenes.
After the season finale of "Xena: Warrior Princess," Lawless has starred in countless TV series including "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena," "Battlestar Galactica" and "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."
