Ellie Goulding responds to the allegations that the song "On My Mind" on her new album is about her former flame Ed Sheeran.
In an interview with MTV about her brand new single, Ellie Goulding denied that it was about Sheeran.
"I'm sorry to all the people that want it to be about someone—it's not, it's like a myth," Goulding said. "I like guys with tattoos, my boyfriend has tattoos...but I don't mind. People can read into it however they want. It's fun to do that, I would do that too."
These are Goulding's lyrics:
"Next thing that I know, I'm in a hotel with you/ You were talking deep like it was mad love to you/ You wanted my heart, but I just liked your tattoos."
Goulding added that the song was about that someone who is always in our minds, and that they had so much fun writing the song.
According to the Mirror, Goulding's lyrics were similar to that of Ed Sheeran's song "Don't" as it both mentions something to do with a hotel and copious amounts of alcohol. Sheeran also has a lot of tattoos.
Sheeran reportedly said that the song "Don't" from his second album X was about Goulding and her cheating on him with Niall Horan from One Direction while they were allegedly still dating in 2013, according to Daily Mail.
The lyrics to Sheeran's song include: "I never saw him as a threat, 'til you disappeared with him to have sex" and "If I show courtesy and respect to someone, I expect to receive it."
However, Goulding blasted the rumous that she ever dated Sheeran in the first place. In the July 2015 issue of ELLE UK, the "Love Me Like You Do" denied that she and Sheeran were never an item.
"I did go on a few dates with Niall [Horan] but I was never in a relationship with Ed [Sheeran]. I have absolutely no idea where that came from and why it was turned into such a big thing. I find it so frustrating that female musicians are constantly defined by the men they have or haven't dated," said Goulding.
The singer goes on to say that she is in the same boat with Taylor Swift as she is another singer who is being constantly judged by who she is dating instead of what she can do.
"Delirium" is Goulding's third album and is produced by Max Martin, Time reports.
