Xbox One update: USB dongle created for wireless gaming; set for release this October
- comments
For seamless wireless gaming, Microsoft will officially release the wireless USB dongle for Xbox One on Oct. 20.
According to the official Xbox website, the USB dongle will be officially launched on Oct. 20 with a price tag of $25. This will allow you to play the Xbox One's wireless controller on Window's 10 PCs, laptops and tablets. PC Mag reports that the dongle is only seemingly compatible with Windows 10 and Xbox One controllers only.
Additionally, other features of the dongle include the ability to have in-game chat and high quality stereo audio as the adapter "enables the same gaming experience the user is used to on Xbox One." The wireless dongle also comes with a USB extender cable to extend the USB connection to any Windows 10 device.
Those with regular Xbox One controllers can also look forward to controller customization in the future. Mike Ybarra, the director of Program Management for Xbox, took to Twitter to answer a tweet about the controller configuration being only available for Xbox Elite.
The tweet by user @StavEllis asked Ybarra: "@XboxP3 @XboxQwik why is the controller configuration only for elite? Such a good feature PS has it as standard we do we have to pay out?"
Ybarra tweeted back: "It's coming for all controllers soon."
According to Inquisitr, it is worth noting that Stav was referring to the controller remapping feature in all PlayStation consoles. This feature has only been available to Xbox One Elite controllers and if it will be available to all standard Xbox One controllers, then what will the Elite be good for? The outlet states that the slightly more expensive controller is more "precise" for gaming.
Rather than cashing in on sales for the console, Microsoft is apparently focused on giving gamers the best gaming experience rather than competing with rival Sony. Softpedia reports that the company will be launching two exclusive games for Xbox One including Crystal Dynamics' all new Lara Croft, Tomb Raider game and "Halo 5: Guardians."
The voice assistant Cortana won't be available to the device until early 2016. However, it has been reported that Cortana can be accessed if you know the right tricks. According to Engadget, you can "peek" at her by going to the settings menu, going up and pressing the A button many times. There isn't a whole lot to see but just the information that is already there. The accidental discovery was made by a user and uploaded on to YouTube.
