Nintendo turns 30: top 5 games they made since 1985

The Nintendo Entertainment System or NES turns 30 this week. Get your tissues ready and start reminiscing on these five memorable games.
1. Duck Hunt
According to Mashable, this was the first game on the Nintendo system that used the Zapper light gun. The objective of the game was simple: shoot down the ducks while they are still on the screen or have a dog laugh at the end of each round.
Although the gun itself was imprecise, it was still fun for its time. If you wanted to increase your accuracy and avoid seeing the annoying dog, simply press the gun against the television screen, Mashable reports.
Other notable shooting games for the console include Hogan's Alley and Wild Gunman.
2. Metroid
This first shooter game was praised for its non-linear gameplay St. Louis Today reports. According to Tech Times, it was also one of the first games that featured a female as the main character and not a damsel in distress.
With a science fiction theme, this game also gave players ample opportunities to explore the environment, St. Louis Today reports.
3. Mario Bros.
The Mario franchise is considered the most successful when it comes to video games, according to Shack News. In just 30 years, the title has expanded its empire to include role playing games, sports and even racing, says St. Louis Today.
Out of the three games that came out for the NES, the Super Mario Bros. 3 game propelled the title and the video game industry to a whole new level. Instead of a linear progression, the game offered players the ability to choose which levels they wanted to play, says Shack News.
This game also allowed players to save items for later use. Some of the iconic items include items that turned Mario/Luigi into a frog or raccoon, the Warp Whistle and the P-Wing, Shack News adds.
4. Legend of Zelda
Although Mario Bros. is the game that sparked a thousand spinoffs and imitations, it is The Legend of Zelda which introduced players to role-playing and adventure games.
There are many memorable aspects to even the first game, Shack News states. It gave players a vast environment to explore, characters to talk to, an array of items, weapons, monsters and even puzzles to solve.
5. Final Fantasy
Initially released in 1987, Final Fantasy became one of the most popular RPG games developed for the NES console. According to St. Louis Today, it made great use of graphics even with all of the console's limitations.
This highly-successful franchise continues to produce games, including spinoffs and merges with other titles. "Final Fantasy XV" will hit shelves in 2016, the article adds.
