Supergirl has a lot to celebrate about, considering the series' season premiere has sent CBS rating for the 8:30 pm slot soaring to new heights.

According to Entertainment Weekly reports, Monday night's episode broke records for the fall season, garnering 14 million views. Adults ages 18-49 gave the show a 3.2 rating.

The Atlantic says it is easier to assume that the series would go into the same direction as Superman, considering both stories are strikingly similar. Kara Zor-El is played by Melissa Benoist.

In the comic, Kara is portrayed as Superman's older cousin, sent on a pod to protect him but gets stuck in the Phantom Zone until the male caped superhero rescues her. She did not age during her imprisonment, making her look younger.

Similar to Superman's story, she gets adopted by humans, works in a similar environment and even wears glasses in an attempt to disguise herself.

What makes this show amusing to watch is that unlike Superman, Kara has a good understanding of her superpowers, The Atlantic reports. The smooth visual effects are also impressive for a television show.

The Atlantic also says that Melissa Benoist was also perfect for the role of Kara.

In a statement to Business Insider, Andrew Kreisberg knew the series would work the moment Benoist first wore the costume during casting.

'Supergirl' cast mates agreed. "It makes it real," Mehcad Brooks told E Online reporters.

One of the more memorable scenes involves Cat Grant (played by Calista Flockhart) labeling the flying lady as Supergirl. USA Today transcribed the memorable encounter between Kara and Cat.

Parade Magazine interviewed executive producers of the show, Andrew Kreisberg and Greg Berlanti on Cat's Speech and "why isn't it called Superwoman?"

According to Greg Berlanti, the Flockhart speech had been a part of the show's original pitch to studio executives. Other than answering the question that a lot of fans may have about the show, it was there to protect the original ideas derived from the comic books.

Fans of the comic book and the new show can expect each episode to feature a new villain, either human or alien in nature, with a major antagonist for the season. Kreisberg says the show will also introduce bad guys from the planet Krypton to ruin things for Kara.

Supergirl is only one of many comic book adaptations currently appearing on television. Forbes says there is also Arrow, Gotham, iZombie and The Flash for DC while Marvel has Daredevil, Powers, Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter.
