Fans of Sheldon and Spock are sure to rejoice as Leonard Nimoy's son, Adam, is expected to make a special appearance on the next episode of The Big Bang Theory.
The Big Bang Theory took the news to various social media outlets including Twitter and Facebook. CBS also released the following statement on their website:
"In 'The Spock Resonance,' recurring guest star Wil Wheaton will appear alongside Adam, an accomplished writer and director in real life, who asks Sheldon Cooper to be in a documentary about his beloved father, Leonard.
While being interviewed, Sheldon struggles to suppress his emotions about his recent break-up with Amy, despite his overwhelming excitement for the sci-fi subject matter."
Adam will be playing himself on this special episode, USA Today states.
There is no mention of what Wheaton's specific role is but Entertainment Weekly speculates he will undoubtedly be there to irritate Sheldon in some way. Whether he is there to discuss their common admiration for Spock or get involved in some petty argument, Cinema Blend says Wheaton's presence in the show is sure to attract viewers.
Contrary to what some may believe, Leonard Nimoy has never been seen physically on any of the show's episodes. However, his influence on the show cannot be ignored or forgotten.
A game known as 'Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock' has previously been featured on the show, says USA Today.
CBS has listed other memorable episodes including one in Season 2 where Sheldon dresses up as Leonard Nimoy's character. Season 5's "The Transporter Malfunction" shows Sheldon talking to a Spock action figure, voiced by Leonard Nimoy himself.
Leonard Nimoy died at the age of 83 on Feb. 27 due to pulmonary disease says Yahoo!
According to Mirror UK reports, Adam started a Kickstarter campaign earlier this year to fund a Spock-themed documentary. The documentary is titled "For the Love of Spock."
Inquisitr says the Star Trek fan base has been monumental in getting the funding needed to produce the video. William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk on the same Star Trek series, provided additional support online by tweeting updates regarding the fundraiser.
As the older Nimoy was also diagnosed with COPD, the Kickstarter page also gives an update on another tribute documentary entitled "COPD: Highly Illogical."
Watch the encounter between Sheldon and Adam on November 5 at 7pm CT / 8 pm ET. This episode marks the series' move to a new timeslot on the channel.
