'No Shave November' turns every men and women hairy; here's 5 reasons why
- comments
Contrary to popular belief, "No Shave November" and Movember are two different campaigns. Although both are geared towards cancer awareness, the rules and conditions are different.
"No Shave November" encourages both genders to participate in the movement. The goal is to avoid shaving for an entire month (beards, mustaches, legs, armpits).
Any money not spent on buying shaving accessories or services can be donated to the American Cancer Society. The site says, "The goal of No-Shave November is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free."
On the other hand, Movember is targeted specifically towards men, to promote awareness on prostate and testicular cancer. Only men are allowed to participate as it requires allowing the mustache to grow for a month.
Here are five reasons why you should give "No Shave November" a shot.
1. Not just for men
Unlike Movember which specifically involves letting 'staches grow wild and free, "No Shave November" includes all types of body hair.
This means women can let their hair down, pun intended. During this month, they can keep the hair on their legs, armpits and everywhere else untouched and unshaved.
Rant Lifestyle says if women are up to the challenge, why not let them?
2. Great conversation starter
If you are normally clean-shaven, people will start to notice the new scruffy look in just a few days. Bro Bible says the Tom Selleck/Burt Reynolds look is sure to garner a few curious looks and questions.
Talking about not shaving may be an awkward topic for women to discuss but it's not a deal breaker. On Her Campus, Marissa Horn says she has even gone on several dates within the no-shaving month.
3. Come up with future costume ideas
Halloween may be over but it's never too late to get started for next year. For an entire month, you can legally get away with looking like Dumbledore, Gandalf, Lincoln or even Jesus without scaring the bejeezus out of people.
If that doesn't work, Mad Ten says it's a great way to start on your Santa look for Christmas.
4. Strengthen relationships
Her Campus says there are clubs and teams which encourage their members to participate so they can bond with one another.
If your friends or teammates are the competitive type, you can egg each other on or keep an eye on each other's progress. Some guys use it as a chance to see who can grow the better beard, says Rant Lifestyle.
5. Save on resources
Let's face it: it takes time and money to keep body hairs trimmed at their proper lengths. According to Rant Lifestyle, with "No Shave November," you can save a few hours and some cash from buying all those razors, creams and other shaving tools.
