Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry made headlines at the end of October when she and husband of two years Olivier Martinez, with whom she has a two year old son, split.

The Telegraph reported that Berry and her French actor husband said in a joint statement, "It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce. We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus for what is best for our son. We wish each other nothing but happiness in life."

This is the third divorce for the 49-year-old Oscar-winning actress, who also has a seven year old daughter named Nahla with her former husband, French Canadian model Gabriel Aubry.

For the first time since Berry's divorce announcement, she spoke up during her appearance at a charity event benefiting domestic violence prevention and intervention organization Jenesse Center, Inc. People reports that according to the actress, "I'm doing okay, I really am."

"I keep pushing..." Berry said. "Whenever you're going through anything in life, when you step outside yourself and focus on others, that's always the best remedy for any situation that you'd rather not be dealing with."

The actress and mother of two also gave a speek at the benefit for Jenesee Center, a national domestic violence prevention and intervention organization, where she spoke of her experiences with domestic violence and how she makes it a point to "help others, especially women."

The Huffington Post reports that according to the actress, "I saw my mother battered and beaten many years of my life and I felt helpless. And that's what connects me to this organization. I have an understanding, a knowing. I feel like I have something that I can impart to these women."

Berry explained, "It seems like I've overcome it, but I really haven't. In the quiet of my mind, I still struggle. So while I'm helping these women, I'm helping myself through it, too. And that's largely why I'm here."

Meanwhile, Variety reports that Halle Berry will be next seen in the action thriller film Kidnap, which opens in theaters on Feb. 26, 2016. The film is directed by Condon Express' Luis Prieto, with a script written by Knate Gwaltney. Kidnap will follow Berry's character as she goes on a journey to save her abducted son, played by Sage Correa. The film also stars The Walking Dead's Lew Temple.
