Country music has a unique way of telling stories, and what better way to deal with one's feelings than to write a song? That's exactly what recent divorcees and new couple Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are doing, People reports. The two coaches of NBC's "The Voice" recently went into the studio to write a midtempo ballad together, shortly after this new season of the reality competition began.

An insider told People, "It's amazing how good [Stefani] sounds on a pretty country song." This is a departure for the 46-year-old singer, whose band No Doubt launched a career in rock music in the '90s, and in 2004, embarked on a solo career playing pop music and went on to win a Grammy Award as a solo artist.

According to the insider, Shelton and Stefani wrote a song about telling a lover to abandon the relationship if that is his or her ultimate wish. The insider added that the song is yet to be cut. This news comes as a surprise, as earlier this year, Shelton told People, "I don't know musically what Gwen and I would probably ever have in common...common... I don't ever see Gwen and I sitting down and writing songs."

The winds seem to have changed since the pair started dating. In fact, a source tells Hollywood Life that Stefani is over the moon with her new relationship with the country crooner.

"Gwen can’t stop smiling right now. She’s so incredibly happy being with Blake," the source says. The pair was also seen holding hands at the after-party of the Country Music Awards, where Shelton's former wife, Miranda Lambert won the award for Female Vocalist Of The Year.

The source said that Stefani, who was married to musician Gavin Rossdale and previously dated her No Doubt bandmate Tony Kanal, has "always gone for these quirky musicians. She’s never dated someone so handsome and confident as [Shelton]. She feels like a giddy high school cheerleader dating the All American QB."

Meanwhile, Radar Online reports that "The Voice" is cashing in on the new romance, as a source told the media outlet, "The studio bosses sat them down last week after they confirmed that they were dating to discuss the whole situation and what would happen in the event that they broke up. The execs even discussed adding a breakup clause to their contracts."

However, the source said that, "Gwen and Blake assured them that, if it does not work out, they will break up on amicable terms because neither of them wants to jeopardize the show."

In fact, studio execs have given the go signal to be flirty on screen for this week's taping. The Voice airs on NBC every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at 8/7c.
