Pix 11 reported that Kasia Rivera, a 38-year-old Jamaican woman, has been given sentence of five years in prison after causing the death of Justin Street by injecting silicone into the man's private organ.
The incident took place in the home of Rivera in East Orange, N.J. in May 2011. The victim went to Rivera's home to get the silicone injection done in the hopes that it would make its penis bigger. However, this was not the result. Instead, it cut its life short as he died the day after he got the injection.
Later, a medical examiner found out that Street died due to silicone embolism. The authorities said that his case was taken as a homicide.
The case was made easy by Rivera herself, by admitting that she was not a trained and licensed doctor even though she administered the injection.
On Sept. 9, 2015, during the trial, William Neafsey, an Assistant Prosecutor, who handled the case, asked Rivera whether she was the one who injected the silicone into Street's penis.
Rivera admitted the crime by replying, "Yes."
The prosecutors handling the case have come to a decision to give Rivera a five-year state prison sentence for the crime she had committed. This is in exchange of the culprit's guilty plea. Without her plea, she might have gotten a much more severe sentence.
Rivera also has the option for parole. However, she is only eligible for this upon serving at least 85 percent of her five-year sentence in state prison. The Jamaican woman already received a total of 228 days for the days she served at the county jail.
She could also be deported back to Jamaica after she has served her 5-year sentence.
According to New Jersey Local News, Rivera also faced an alleged jury tampering in May.
Three jurors claimed that a man, believed to be associated with Rivera, approached them and tried to bribe them with $5,000 in exchange of influencing the result of Rivera's trial.
Due to this, Superior Court Judge Ronald Wigler decided to dismiss all 20 prospective jurors from serving on the trial.
Rivera continued to assert her innocence in the alleged jury tampering.
