Both the kids and young-at-hearts have come to enjoy watching "Dragon Ball Z," one of the most popular anime TV series that ever came out from Japan ever since its first release days back in the early '90s. But, other than its re-runs and a re-mastered version, the "Dragon Ball Kai," there has never been a follow-up to the series—not until now and after 20 years of waiting.
Toei Animation came up with the all-new series called "Dragon Ball Super" for its huge loyal fan base and the children of today's generation. And just recently, Toonami was able to get a hold of the rights on the franchise's latest installment.
The network will launch the series sometime in the middle of 2016, which will be an exclusive first-run premiere on Toonami in Southeast Asia and India, and will also be the world premiere in the English language, Toonami Faithful wrote.
"This announcement is huge for fanboys and girls in Asia. Dragon Ball is undoubtedly the original and world's biggest anime export, and is a cornerstone of our programming on Toonami," said Mark Eyers, Chief Content Officer for Turner's Kids Networks in Asia Pacific in a press release.
"Since the channel launched in 2012, Toonami has been airing episodes of "Dragon Ball Z" and "Dragon Ball Z Kai", and to premiere "Dragon Ball Super" demonstrates the channel's continued commitment to securing must-have and must-see content, first on Toonami."
Meanwhile, the titles for Dragon Ball Super episodes 19 and 20 were already revealed in the November issue of Japan's Shueisha's Saikyo Jump magazine, according to Attackofthefanboy. On these next two episodes, fans are anticipating the resurrection of Frieza and his return to Earth.
Episode 19 is called, "Goku throws himself into training under Whis. Meanwhile in Hell, you-know-who suffers intense torment," and will air on Nov. 15; while episode 20 airing on Nov. 22 is entitled, "An unprecedented threat bears down on Earth!! At this time, an old friend comes to visit Bulma...!?"
Episode 18, which was last aired on Nov. 8, was entitled "Goku departs Earth and begins training under Whis. The surprising training method is...!?". On this episode, the training of both Goku and Vegeta commenced at Beerus' planet. Apart from the regular training, they also have two do some chores.
Toonami (Asia) is available in countries such as Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Pakistan, Maldives, and India. For the meantime, there is still no official word yet whether "Dragon Ball Super" will be released soon in the U.S., according to DragonBallInsider.
