Ellie Goulding workout & fitness secrets: singer reveals her goal was not to be 'skinny'

British singer/songwriter Ellie Goulding is on the cover of Shape Magazine's December issue, and it's only fitting that the 28-year-old "On My Mind" singer show off her fit and toned body, which she constantly works on through an exercise regimen and a good diet.
People reports that the singer, who performed during the Victoria's Secret fashion show, shed light on what kind of workout Goulding keeps to maintain her rockin' bod.
"HIIT is] by far the hardest thing I've ever done. I come out of there feeling like something big just happened to my body, and I'm completely drained," Goulding explains. "Of all the workouts I’ve tried, this one has been the best for me."
It should be noted that Goulding also created a Nike Training Club HIIT workout as the face of the brand. As an award-winning artist and major sports brand endorser, Goulding also enjoys some perks of the job, including having a trainer on call.
"When I'm not on the road, my trainer comes to my house a few times a week and we go for a run outdoors and then do weight training," Goulding explains. She also admitted that she enjoys Barry's Bootcamp, "because you spend half the session running and half doing weight and floor work. It's really good for endurance, and it keeps me superfocused."
The singer, whose new record Delirium was recently released, admits that she used to smoke and still drinks at times. She muses, "I believe you have to find balance. We’re expected to stay fit and eat healthy all the time, but that’s just never going to happen. We all have to deal with stress. Sometimes at the end of the day, I want to have a drink, and I’m not ashamed of that."
As for her diet, Goulding tells Shape that she is an "aspiring vegan" who enjoys making green juice from bananas, avocado, spinach, broccoli. Her favorite foods also include sweet-potato fries, salad, quinoa, and nuts.
Huffington Post reports that Goulding's Instagram is a fitspo of sorts, as the singer often posts photos of herself working out and working on her six-pack abs. But the singer said that the goal is not to be skinny, but to be strong.
"If getting stronger means getting more toned and slimmer, so be it, as long as strength comes with it," Goulding says. "I’m happy with my figure. I’ve never intended or tried to be skinny. It’s my not thing."
Goulding's third studio record, Delirium, is available now.
