Gaming fans will be glad to know that they can further explore the world of "Game of Thrones" in a second season of the recently-concluded six-episode run of the game.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Telltale Games, the game studio behind "Game of Thrones: A Telltale Game Series", has confirmed a second season for the series.
Telltale Games' CEO Kevin Bruner told The Hollywood Reporter, "When we initially announced the series in 2013, we let everyone know this would be a multi-title, multiyear partnership with HBO. After this week's finale, I'm pleased to officially confirm that there will be a second season of Telltale's Game of Thrones series and that it's currently in development."
"Game of Thrones: A Telltale Game Series" was a six-episode series that ended with "The Ice Dragon" this week. The series left Rodrik Forrester severely hurt and his family missing or dead, while House Forrester squire Gared Tuttle recently discovered the secret of the late Lord Gregor.
"The questions left on the table at the conclusion of season one — who survived and who didn't — as well as all the other choices you made play a huge role in the second season," Bruner explained. "We've been planning the second season all along, but I really shouldn't be revealing more than that."
Nonetheless, Bruner promises that while the Forresters have "a very rough time" during the first season of the game series, there will be a "larger story to be played out" come season two. According to the Telltale CEO, "What may seem like small victories after the downfall of Ironrath are important ones. The choices players make in season one set the stage for what's to come."
IGN reports that the team had been planning the second iteration long before the season ended and now that they are in development, the process was likened to how the studio created the first season of the game.
Released in December 2014 for Android, iOS, Microsoft Windows, OS X, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, "Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series" took place concurrently with HBO's "Game of Thrones", specifically at the end of the third season until prior the events of the fifth season. The game features the House Forrester, characters not yet explored in the television series, but already mentioned briefly in George R.R. Martin's "A Dance with Dragons".
Bruner said, "Beyond this season, we know that the choices made will have long-lasting effects on later episodes...but we're still not quite ready to go into detail."
