Great news for "Lego Movie" fans, as the directors of the widely successful animated film Chris Miller and Phil Lord have announced via social media that the first draft of the sequel is officially done. Miller took to Twitter to announce the news, writing, "Just turned in the official first draft of LEGO Movie 2. Hello, Thanksgiving."

Entertainment Weekly reports that Rob Schrab of "The Mindy Project" and "Community" is directing the film, which brings back "Jurassic World" star Chris Pratt as Emmet. Lord and Miller are also set to produce the other upcoming Lego movies, including "The Lego Batman Movie" and "Ninjago".
Lord and Miller spoke to Empire in January, talking about how different helmers bring their own creativity to each film. Miller said, "There’s a challenge to make each one feel like its own thing. Part of the fun is finding people like Charlie [Bean], who’s doing the Ninjago movie, and Chris McKay who did so much on the first film.
Each of them has their own distinct voices and ideas for tone. So it will each have its own personality and not just be, ‘Hey, remember that last movie? Here’s another one just like it!”"
Lord added, "I think it’s nice for all these other films to have their own voice and that’s what’s neat about working with all these other filmmakers. They come up with solutions you wouldn’t think of."
As for Emmet's future in the second installment of "Lego Movie", this is what Miller had to say: "We were really interested in what happens to that boy who’s in the metastory in the first movie when he’s four years older. When he’s an adolescent how does that change his point of view?"
Meanwhile, iO9 reported earlier this month that according to Scrab, the production team behind "Lego Movie" is currently in talks with BBC to "negotiate an appearance by the Doctor in the sequel". That's "Doctor Who", of course, who may be another prominent character to join the ranks of Batman and Gandalf in the four-dimensional Lego world.
"Lego Batman Movie", which arrives a year earlier on February 10, 2017, will feature voices of Micheal Cera as Robin, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Zach Galifianakis as Joker, and Ralph Fiennes, who will bring to life Bruce Wayne's very own butler, Alfred Pennyworth, Screencrush reports. The star-studded film will also feature Mariah Carey as the mayor of Gotham, The Hollywood Reporter revealed earlier this month.
Meanwhile, "The Lego Movie Sequel" is set to build up an audience in theaters come May 18, 2018.
