An existing listing on Amazon states that "Kingdom Hearts III" is open for preorders for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It will be officially released on Dec. 31, 2016, but won't be shipped until next year, Jan. 2, 2017. The page also showed that it was made by Square Enix and that it "will feature new and familiar worlds based on Disney properties, and will serve as the final chapter of the Dark Seeker saga."

The listing also noted about the release date of the game which rescinds the release date of the game.

"Please note: Customers may have received an email from Amazon stating that this title is scheduled to release on 1/2/2017. Please note that the placeholder release date for this game is 12/31/2016, and 1/2/2017 just happens to be the next shipping day after that placeholder date," it said. "No actual release date is confirmed at this time. Apologies for any confusion this may have caused."

The apology from the company happened after a user shared an email from Amazon after placing a pre-order for the game earlier this year. The email stated that the arrival of the game is early 2017.

Nerdpotamus shared the original email addressed to a certain Walter Winchester from Amazon:

"Hello,

"We have received new release date information related to your pre-ordered video game in the order you placed on January 25, 2015 (Order# ***-*******-*******). The release date for the video game listed below has been changed by the publisher, and we want to provide you with a new delivery estimate based on the new release date:

"Kingdom Hearts III - Xbox One

Estimated arrival date: January 02, 2017"

However, there is still no word or official statement from Square Enix. This was seconded by Dan Seto, a Square Enix manager in a tweet.

Square Enix in an older blog post revealed that KHIII will have "older Sora" as the protagonist as well as other Disney characters including Donald Duck, Goofy and Mickey Mouse. MNR Daily updates that it will also feature "San Fransokyo," the world of "Big Hero 6." The site also pointed out that other popular characters from "Toy Story" may also be in the game.

The site adds that the game delays were due to the engine being used in the game.

"The transition was quite a process," adding, "We pretty much had to start from the ground again," said game director Tetsuya Nomura. "We had to make sure that we could recreate our key effects in the Unreal Engine and that the effects we specifically needed for Kingdom Hearts could be adapted."
