Did you just name your baby girl, Sophia? Or maybe Jackson for your cute baby boy? Chances are they will grow up with having some friends here and there with their namesake. That is because the two names have once again topped the list of the most popular baby names this 2015.
Sophia's are joined at the top of the rankings by Emma and Olivia for the second and third spot, respectively, while Ava and Mia rounded out the top five for the girl's names, according to Baby Center. Isabella, Zoe, Lily, Emily and Madison also made it to the top 10 of the list.
For the boy's most widely used names, Jackson is joined by Aiden at close second and Liam at the third spot. Names like Lucas (4th), Noah (5th), Mason (6th), Ethan (7th), Caden (8th), Logan (9th) and Jacob (10th) completed the list.
Emma emerged as the most popular name among girls for six years and counting, while for four consecutive years, Emma and Olivia were able to keep their spot. This year's last placer for the girls, Madison, made it in the list after moving past Madelyn, which did not make it this time around.
As for their male counterparts, Jackson secured his position as the most popular guy after holding on to the distinction for three years in a row. Almost all the other boys have also held on to their respective spot from last year except for Jacob which is replaced by Logan for the ninth.
Variation in the spelling of the names were taken into account with those that sound the same and just some few letters in differences like Sophia and Sofia were taken as one. The Baby Center compiled data from more than 340,000 parents who shared their baby's name with them in 2015 to come up with the list.
Meanwhile, Mashable noted that most of the names listed this year as the most popular were based from technology- and science-inspired names. For most parents, the social media platform Instagram has been the main go-to source of inspiration in 2015.
Instagram was clearly a primary source of inspiration for parents this year, with several app filter names rising in the ranks. For boys, Lux was up 75 percent since 2014, and Ludwig was up 42 percent; for girls, Valencia was up 26 percent since last year and Juno was up 30 percent.
"This is the first time we've seen technology break through as a source of name inspiration," Linda Murray, BabyCenter's global editor in chief, said. "Photo-sharing is a daily and emotional part of Millennials' lives, and those two ingredients can trigger love for a name."
