Oculus Rift price, games & update: 'special announcement' to be featured on The 2015 Game Awards

Gamers are in for a treat for tonight's Game Awards 2015, as Oculus VR show producer Geoff Keighley promised via Twitter that a "special announcement" will be released during the show.

Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey, who Keighley said will make the announcement, also took to Twitter to share the news, which he claims is not about preorders.

IGN reports that tonight's Game Awards is the second in the yearly event which honors the best in the gaming arena. Fans can head over to the IGN website to watch it stream at 6 p.m. PT / 9 p.m. ET tonight.

VG24/7 reports that the ceremony will feature ten new reveals, including gameplay footage for Remedy Entertainment's "Quantum Break", Ubisoft Montreal's "Far Cry Primal", and a character reveal for NetherRealm Studios' "Mortal Kombat X". According to Screenrant, gamers are anticipating the "Mortal Kombat X" Kombat Pack 2 will feature four additional characters beyond the game's universe.

On the topic of big announcements, Big Shiny Robot reports that Big Deez Productions and Shaq are possibly unveiling the "Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn," for which they raised $458,000 during this May's Indiegogo campaign.

As per Gamespot, Mark Hamill, Kiefer Sutherland, and Shaquille O'Neal are set to present during the awarding ceremony. "24" star isn't a stranger to the gaming world, as he voiced the character Snake in "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain". Meanwhile, Hamill also has a role in "Star Citizen". Artists Deadmau5 and Chvrches are also set to perform.

Hideo Kojima, who left Konami in October, has not yet confirmed his attendance, but Keighley is hopeful that he will appear. He said, "Wish I knew the answer to that," and that he's "anxiously awaiting" to find out if Kojima will indeed attend.

This year's contenders for Game of the Year are FromSoftware's "Bloodborne," Bethesda Game Studios' "Fallout 4," Kojima Productions' "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain," Nintendo's "Super Mario Maker," and CD Projekt Red's "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt."

The Developer of the Year Award includes Bethesda Game Studios, CD Projekt Red, FromSoftware, Kojima Productions, and Nintendo. Those that are up for Best Art Direction include Rocksteady Studios' "Batman: Arkham Knight," FromSoftware's "Bloodborne," Kojima Productions' "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain," Moon Studios' "Ori and the Blind Forest," and CD Projekt Red's "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt."
