British actor Tom Holland, who is set to play Spider-Man in the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War" and the new "Spider-Man" isn't new to working with superheroes. In fact, the 19-year-old is appearing in the Ron Howard-directed "In the Heart of the Sea," which also stars "Thor" and "Avengers" star Chris Hemsworth. Holland recently opened up about working with the Marvel superhero and how Thor helped him land the role of "Spider-Man."

In an interview with the New York Daily News, Holland shared that when production wrapped for "In the Heart of the Sea," he asked Hemsworth to lend him a hand in landing the role.

"I emailed him while I was auditioning for (Spider-Man) and said, 'So can you maybe put in a good word for me? And he did, he was awesome about it," Holland said.

Hemsworth added that "I called the guys at Marvel when they were casting and I heard he was in the final handful of guys and said, 'Look, for what it's worth you're not going to meet a harder working more appreciative kind of guy.'"

"Then I said to him: 'I said I've told them that, so don't prove me wrong,'" the "Thor" star said. Talk about real life superheroes!

It seems like Holland did put in the work, because aside from landing the role, as directors Anthony and Joe Russo were all praises when it came to the young actor.

The directors admitted that they were very specific with what they wanted with the new face of Peter Parker, and Screenrant reports that according to Joe Russo, "We did two screen tests with the character. We were pretty vocal about who we wanted for the part. He’s fantastic. Amazing."

The directors added that "He fits the part like you can’t believe."

Holland is the third actor to don the mask, as Tobey Maguire played the role in the Sam Raimi-directed trilogy in 2002, 2004, and 2007 while Andrew Garfield played the superhero in "The Amazing Spider-Man" reboot in 2012 and 2012.

The rights of this character is originally owned by Sony, but thanks to Marvel's deal with the company, Peter Parker will now appear in Marvel/Disney's "Captain America: Civil War".

Variety reports that Holland recently opened up about the role, saying, "I think one of the most interesting things about Peter Parker for us is that he’s the only person in the MCU now that has a secret identity, so we all know who everyone else is."

"I think it’s quite interesting to go back to that hiding behind a mask," he said. The actor makes his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in "Captain America: Civil War," and will then step up to the lead in the July 2017 "Spider-Man" movie to be produced by both Sony and Marvel, Daily Mail reports.

"Captain America: Civil War" erupts in theaters come May 6, 2016.
