Director Steven Spielberg is taking the helm for Disney's upcoming movie "The Big Friendly Giant." We have the details on the movie cast, plot and other updates for this Disney movie here.
"Never get out of bed, never go to the window, never look behind the curtain," Sophie says in the trailer.
The Big Friendly Giant is based on a book written by Roald Dahl. In the story, Sophie befriends the BFG, a giant who is not like any other.
They go on an adventure to see the Queen of England and inform her of the cruel giants.
"It's story about friendship, it's story about loyalty and protecting your friends and it's a story that shows that even a little girl can help a big giant solve his biggest problems," Spielberg said on People magazine.
According to The Guardian, the late Melissa Mathison penned the screenplay for the movie adaptation of the book. Mathison and Spielberg previously worked together on the set of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial.
Slash Film reports that newcomer Ruby Barnhill will be taking the role of little Sophie while Mark Rylance will be filling in the enormous shoes of the big friendly giant. Bill Hader has been selected to play the part of the Bloodbottler, Jemaine Clement as the Freshlumpeater.
Penelope Wilton will be taking on the mantle of the Queen of England while Rebecca Hall plays the queen's maid.
Collider speculates that Spielberg will be using motion capture to present the mythical creatures in a more realistic manner.
In a report by Time, The Big Friendly Giant is the fourth book by Roald that has been adapted for the big screen. Wes Anderson directed "Fantastic Mr. Fox," Danny Devito produced "Matilda," while Tim Burton created both "James and the Giant Peach" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."
'The Big Friendly Giant' will feature Spielberg's first attempts in creating a live-action 3D action. Surprisingly, it is also his first movie for Disney.
This movie will also feature cinematography from Janusz Kaminski and music from John Williams, Screen Rant reports. Kaminski is the same director of photography behind "Schindler's List" and "Jerry Maguire" while Williams is a famed composer for many Star Wars films.
The Guardian says the movie will be released on July 1, 2016, in the United States, Australia on June 30 and in the UK on July 22 of the same year. This release date, People magazine says, is approximately two months before Dahl celebrates 100 years.
Other movies expected to hit theaters around the same time include "Independence Day: Resurgence" and "The Legend of Tarzan."
