New content has just been released for players of "Star Wars: Battlefront" on the PlayStation 4 and PC on Origin and the North American PlayStation Store.

According to Screen Rant, the response to the new Star Wars game has been mixed. Although the design of the game has piqued the interest of fans, the content has been largely seen as thin.

In a review by PC Power Play, there is also the issue of finding a mode that has enough players. Launching the free DLC pack is reported to remedy that, offering gamers more content to play with.

The storyline for the "Battle of Jakku" takes place approximately 29 years before "The Force Awakens." The events surrounding the war set the scene for what will occur in 'The Force Awakens' movie.

The pack was initially released on December 1 for players who preordered the game.

Beginning Tuesday, Dec. 8, all PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC gamers will be able to download and access the "Battle of Jakku" for free.

Destructoid says the DLC content features a new map and a number of new modes. As reported by Geek Snack, the 1.03 update includes several fixes and improvements to the game's vehicles, play modes and HUD adjustments among others.

The 'Turning Point' mode is the main feature of this DLC pack. Compared to Battlefront's Walker Assault mode where the Imperials are on the attack, Tech Times says that with this mode, it is the Rebels doing all the attacking.

Gamers will need at least 1.5GB worth of storage space available to play the game. Check out this game footage to learn more about the Turning Point mode.

A total of four DLC packs are expected to come in the following months.

It should be noted that the "Battle of Jakku" is not a full game or a standalone. Gamers will still need to purchase, download and install 'Star Wars: Battlefront' to access the DLC.

For gamers who have yet to try out the game, now is the time to purchase a copy. IGN recently reported that the price of the "Star Wars: Battlefront" game for the PS4 and Xbox One has been slashed by $20.

Gamers who purchase from Amazon and have a Marvel or comiXology account will also get a free copy of 'Star Wars (2015-) #1: Director's Cut.

Another freebie that is being offered for free a Star Wars "Salute" emote. A tip from Games Radar reveals that signing up for EA's mailing list gives gamers free access to the "Star Wars: Battlefront" emote.
