Ed Sheeran will take a break after the last stretch of his world tour in New Zealand this weekend so he could undergo ear surgery. According to Belfast Telegraph, Sheeran will also be on hiatus to recuperate as well.

Sheeran burst his eardrum after jumping off of a boat and landing incorrectly in the water. The burst eardrum was so severe he had to get surgery on January and he had to have his skin grafted because of it. The operation won't let him fly on a plane for a while, but the singer is partly glad because he can stay home for a while.

"I have to have an operation in January on my ear because I stupidly jumped off a yacht really high up and smashed it," the "Thinking Out Loud" singer told Australian radio station Nova FM. "I landed wrong and it burst my eardrum so I have to go and get a graft, which means I'm not allowed to fly for a while, so it's kind of good; it means I have to stay at home."

The singer revealed that he only realized what had happened when he jumped in the water again and sea water entering the hole in his ears made it painful.

"That was on holidays and I didn't realise what happened until I went in water again and it's the most painful thing having a hole in your ear drum and having water go in," he explained during the interview.

The accident happened this year while he was in Spain for a vacation. It was on his last day in the country that he rented a yacht with his friends to celebrate.

"And yeah it was pretty fun but that's when the jumping off incident happened," Ed said, as reported by Metro.

This is not the first time for Sheeran to encounter accidents when he's touring or on the road. He revealed that he cut himself while trying to open a beer bottle with a lighter last year.

"I just tried to open a beer bottle, you know how you can open beer bottles with lighters? So I tried to do that with another beer bottle and it just kind of shattered in my hand," Sheeran said as reported by The Sun. "It's usually beer bottles that smash in my hands and cut them open, but I have a load of scars on my hands."

His world tour began on August 2014 and will finish on Saturday.
