The resale value of a vehicle is one of the factors most car buyers tend to overlook. Although, this may not be so surprising, especially when you think that there are not a lot out there who are about to buy a new car and already thinking of selling it, at the same time. But, smart buyers know better than that.
And, to help consumers have a good idea of knowing which cars are able to retain their value better than the others, Kelley Blue Book, one of the most respected and trusted automotive research and car valuation companies in the U.S. today, came out with their list of 2016 cars with the best resale value, CNN Money reported.
"As much as you might love your car, at some point you're going to sell it, and the results of that transaction can either be a big win - high resale value - or a tragic loss - low resale value. The difference can be thousands of dollars that you either keep or toss out the window," wrote KBB in their website.
Based on the company's research and analysis, estimates have it that 2016 vehicles, on the average, will only retain 35 percent of its value after five years, according to CBS News. But, for those who made it to KBB top 10 list, the numbers go up to 47 percent and even to as much as 62 percent of the original price.
KBB named Subaru as the Best Brand and Lexus as the Best Luxury Brand for having the greatest combined projected resale value for each of their entire product portfolio. They also handed out honors on 22 different categories like compact car, SUV and van.
As for the overall top 10 winners, the individual vehicle models projected to retain the highest percentage of their original suggested retail price are the 2016 Toyota Tacoma with 61.7 percent resale value after 60 months, 2016 Toyota 4Runner with 60.3 percent, 2016 GMC Canyon (59.5 percent), 2016 Chevrolet Colorado (58.6 percent), 2016 Jeep Wrangler (54.9 percent), 2016 Toyota Tundra (53.8 percent), 2016 Subaru WRX (50.8 percent), 2016 Chevrolet Camaro (49 percent), 2016 GMC Sierra (48 percent) and 2016 Subaru Forester (47.3 percent).
General Motors, notably, has also come up big with four of its vehicles making it to the list. And, what is also worth mentioning is that only two cars made the cut with the list dominated by trucks and SUVs.
The resale value projections are based on current vehicle data, sales data, market conditions for each vehicle, competition within vehicle segments, expectations of the future economy and the combined experience of Kelley Blue Book's team of market and pricing analysts.
