The 2017 Ford GT is already among the most impressive upcoming cars. Now, another feature has been added to the vehicle to make it even more impressive than before. Neowin reported that Ford will be using the Gorilla Glass glazing technology to its forthcoming brand new and innovative car model.
Today, it is no longer a surprise to see how car manufacturers incorporate innovative technology to give their car models a "wow" factor. 4G LTE & WiFi technology is now being offered in selected new Chevrolet vehicles. Ford's complete automobile fleet has been powered by Microsoft with the use of its Sync platform for years already. Now, Ford is partnering with Corning to offer something considered to be the first in the car industry.
Considering the fact that 2017 Ford GT will be the first car to get the Gorilla Glass, the auto will look like the flagship test bed with technologies that will soon be incorporated to cheaper vehicles.
According to Car and Driver, the Gorilla Glass technology will make the 2017 Ford GT lightweight and will improve the performance of the car. Another great thing about it is that it is scratch-resistant - well, no wonder why it is the glass technology used on several innovative smartphones and tablets.
The Gorilla Glass will be used on Ford GT's rear engine cover and windshield. This will help the car manufacturer to shed as much as 12 pounds of the car's weight. On the other hand, the company is also planning to use another high-tech kind of glass for the car's bulkhead between the passenger compartments and the engine.
The overall reduced weight of 2017 Ford GT offers great car performance. It is reported that it will enhance Ford GT's braking performance, fuel economy, and acceleration.
Aside from performance and its weight, the Gorilla Glass glazing technology is also 30 times stronger than the currently used standard glass, the Forbes reported. Despite being stronger than the standard glass, it is thinner than it. It is only three to four millimeters thick while the standard one is four to six millimeters thick.
According to Edmunds, selling of the 2017 Ford GT will start in late 2016. Ford Performance's Chief Engineer Jamal Hameedi also said that the price of the car will be more or less $400,000. There is still no exact price, but it is around the specified price of Hameedi.
