Rumors have it that British actress Emma Watson will be taking on one of the coveted roles in the upcoming "Charlie's Angels" reboot.
But, for the meantime, fans would have to wait further as no official word has yet to be released with regard to the star of the "Harry Potter" series and the upcoming "Beauty and the Beast" film joining the cast. Australia Network News said that the possibility of Watson starring in the "Charlie's Angels" film may be "kind of a stretch." But, we are, definitely, keeping our fingers crossed on this one.
What is certain for now, though, is the involvement of Elizabeth Banks in the film as she takes on the duties at the directorial helm. The 41-year-old Banks is also an actress more popularly known in her role as Effie Trinket from "The Hunger Games" franchise.
But, she just recently had her big success for her directorial debut film for the box office hit "Pitch Perfect 2." Apart from directing the "Charlie's Angels" reboot, banks will also be producing the film through her Brownstone production company with producing partner Max Handelman, wrote The Hollywood Reporter.
As for the film's screenplay, Sony tapped the talents of Greek-American screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos. The scribe who is best known for his script for films, such as "Hercules" featuring Dwayne Johnson, and "Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure" will also be writing for the upcoming films like "The Huntsman Winter's War" starring Chris Hemsworth, Jessica Chastain, Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt; and Disney's live-action "Beauty and the Beast" starring Emma Watson and Ewan McGregor.
"Spiliotopoulos clearly has a knack for a few things: action, silliness, grandiosity and indulgence," wrote ScreenCrush. "And those are definitely adjectives one might use to describe 'Charlie's Angels,' both in its original incarnation and the two somewhat-underrated films directed by McG."
Andrea Giannetti, meanwhile, will be the overall in-charge on the project for Sony, which also produced the 2000 and 2003 film versions of "Charlie's Angels" starring Hollywood A-listers Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu. The two movies grossed a combined amount of more than half a billion dollars in the box office worldwide.
"'Charlie's Angels' was a hit television series in the 1970s, centered around three female detectives - played by Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith - who worked to solve cases for a mysterious benefactor named Charlie, while also working with their sidekick, Bosley," wrote Variety.
And, with the recent success of both Banks and Spiliotopoulos in the box office, it is expected that their magic will rub off to the upcoming film. Now, Sony is, definitely, keeping its fingers crossed on this one.
