'GoPro 5' Release Date & News: Playstation Partnership Set, GoPro Channel Arrives For PS4 & PS3

Gamers on the PlayStation console can now access GoPro content. The camera maker announced Tuesday that its GoPro Channel can already be watched on the PS4 and PS3.
"We want GoPro content and programming to be easily accessible on every platform where our millions of fans spend time," GoPro director Jon Cohen said in the press release. "There's a sweet-spot of overlap between PlayStation's super-engaged audience and the GoPro audience and we're excited to welcome PlayStation to GoPro's expanding OTT family."
Some of the key features that the GoPro Chanel offers include the following:
- Enhanced searching capabilities, where users can look for different videos and watch these without leaving the search page.
- Playlist browsing, where users can navigate and watch videos on a set of playlist.
- Access to all activities, where users can scroll through a particular playlist of activities like fighting, skiing or surfing videos.
- Product discovery, where users can learn more about GoPro cameras and accessories.
Per Venture Beat, GoPro's partnership with Sony, PlayStation's maker, is a big step for the tech industry as the two companies are actually competitors in the action sports camera market.
Engadget reported that GoPro will be releasing an exclusive content for PlayStation users in the form of a show called "The 66th Parallel." However, this will only available until Dec. 29 and will then be accessible to other platforms where the GoPro channel is available such as Roku and Amazon Fire TV.
Meanwhile, GoPro's highly anticipated release of the Hero 5 could coincide with the release of the GoPro Karma drone in 2016, per Crossmap.
GoPro Hero 5 was initially pegged as coming to the market by October 2015, but when that didn't happen, speculations are that the device could be expected by next year. Market analysts said this release could take a while as the company recently made price cuts to Hero 4 to boost sales. However, it's still not enough to bring down the inventory, per NBC News.
If and when released, the GoPro Hero 5 is believed to be about 50 percent smaller in size than previous releases, but it will have better and higher quality features. Photos and videos will be crisper and sharper than ever with its resolutions doubling current capabilities, per Master Herald.
On the other hand, GoPro already announced that its Karma Drone is coming next year via a website announcement. No further details have been relayed.
