Miss Colombia Speaks Out for the First Time About The Miss Universe Fiasco: 'My Destiny Was This'
- comments
Just days after this year's Miss Universe aired with the controversial coronation of Miss Colombia by mistake, the Colombian beauty took to Instagram to share her thoughts on what may be called the shortest Miss Universe reign ever.
Mashable reports that Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez wrote on her official Instagram account, "After the storm comes the calm. I want to thank each and everyone of you who have sent messages of support and strength."
Gutierrez posted along with a photo of herself doing a heart sign with her hands during the pageant. She thanked her supporters, writing, "Everyone of you has become an incredible human being in my book and I am the most fortunate and thankful for having the support not only from one country but from the whole entire world."
"Your destiny is written for you. And my destiny was this," the 21-year-old wrote. "I was able to bring happiness to my country after becoming Miss Universe for only a couple of minutes."
"Life continues and in the future we will find out why things happen the way they happen," she mused.
Meanwhile, despite Steve Harvey's embarrassing mistake on live television that was witnessed by people all over the world, Deadline reports that as per Mark Shapiro, Chief Content Officer at WME which owns the Miss Universe Organization, Harvey "did a great job. He was funny, he was informative, he’s high energy, he’s got a great following. The man is wildly successful in all different walks of life, with books and radio and television."
Huffington Post reports that according to Shapiro, "I definitely want him back, and I would hate to see him not come back. He’s going to want a shot to redeem himself."
Shapiro added, "Look, the world forgives, the world forgets. It could happen to the best of us. He was so well intended, and he’s such a good guy, and it was really such a mistake that I hope people don’t hold this over him other than for just a good laugh and let it pass."
FOX Sports reports that the Frisco RoughRiders, the Texas Rangers' Double-A affiliate is set to hold a "Runner-Up Night" event on April 26, for which they invited Harvey to host. Other celebrities invited to partake in the night's festivities are Jim Kelly, Andre Reed and Marv Levy of the Buffalo Bills' early 1990s Super Bowl teams, singers Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera (runners-up on "Star Search"), Al Gore and Mitt Romney (runners-up in presidential elections), Darren McFadden (current Dallas Cowboys running back and two-time Heisman Trophy runner-up) and more.
The Frisco RoughRiders are also looking to invite Miss Colombia herself, Ariadna Gutierrez. Whether or not she'll do events to further her reach is yet to be seen.
