The beloved Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi recently hinted of the possibility that "Doctor Who" season 10 could be his last tour of duty in the TARDIS. The 57-year-old Scottish actor, director and writer only has a contract to do the show in his third year of playing the character. But he is not closing his doors altogether, his return in the future is rather slim.

"This could be my final year - it's terrifying. I love Doctor Who but it can be quite an insular world and I do want to do other things," Capaldi said in an interview with the Telegraph.

"There will come a time when this is over. But I knew that when I started. I was thinking about my regeneration scene from the outset. That's my terrible melancholic nature. When you accept the job you know there'll come a day, inevitably, when you'll be saying goodbye," he added.

The show's writer and producer Steven Moffat also bolstered the reports that The Doctor will return for season 10. He said that Capaldi "is going nowhere," according to a report from Variety.

Moffat also denied the reports claiming that season 10 is going to be a shortened one because of the schedule of Capaldi. He said that he can absolutely confirm that the reports were complete bunk. The series he said won't be reduced in size and they are making a full season with 12 episodes plus a Christmas special, wrote Den of Geek.

Meanwhile, BBC has just released a teaser for the series' Christmas 2015 special. In the video published in the "Doctor Who" official YouTube channel, Capaldi and Alex Kingston gave out their thoughts on the upcoming Christmas special episode and reveal the plot where their characters are fighting a "very interesting" alien, which is played by actor and writer Greg Davies.

"With the "Doctor Who" Christmas Special mere days away, most of the people involved want to spread some holiday cheer! Not only that; they want to make the message as clear as possible that this is going to be an episode very different from the first special featuring Peter Capaldi in full," wrote CarterMatt.

Now, one of the things that fans of the series have to watch out for is if there is a chance that Kingston's character River Song could turn out to be the new "companion" for the beloved time-travelling alien. That, certainly, would be a joy to watch considering the added fun brought about by the character.
