With the advancement of technology, there has been a growing improvement and production of high-tech devices like computers, smartphones and smartwatches. From time to time, it is no longer surprising to learn about new products featuring improved specs of the previous models that were released earlier. This is the trend in the market.
According to CNET, on Tuesday, Casio unveiled its first smartwatch for iPhone and Android devices at CES 2016 in Las Vegas. The Smart Outdoor Watch is officially known as WSD-F10, which is very different from the company's calculator watches during the 1980s.
The new smartwatch is for users who enjoy the outdoors and still want to stay connected. It features a built-in microphone and is water-resistant up to 50 meters. This watch is built to meet U.S. military standards.
WSD-F10 is "a gigantic, rugged Android Wear device with a specific case." It comes with a pressure sensor along with the compass and accelerometer, The Verge added.
Casio's smartwatch dual-layer display features both a monochrome LCD and color LCD, which helps improve battery life. Its battery life is said to last about a day and a half to two days with normal usage. It is intended to make the screen visible in any condition.
Since Android Wear powers WSD-F10, it can display the notifications from your iPhone or Android device and provide personalized Google Now cards on the weather, your favorite sports team and more.
Apart from this, Casio has developed a special watch faces it calls "tools" that offers you convenient access to the Smart Outdoor watch's sensors and other relevant information like altitude, air pressure, compass direction, tide graphs, sunrise and sunset times and your own activity.
Per Engadget, Casio "looked to the weakness inherent in current wearables" by giving their smartwatch an impressive battery life and survivability when used outdoors. Per the report, aside from doing all the things an Android Wear can do it has a "timepiece" mode.
If you switch off all the smart features of WSD-F10, this smartwatch can last around a month on a single charge. Isn't that great?
Meanwhile, when worn alongside an Apple Watch, it will make the latter look slender but they have almost unrecognizable differences in their weight. Apple has cornered the market, now that Casio has ventured into producing smartwatches, will it be their turn?
The Casio Smart Outdoor Watch WSD-F10 is set to launch in Japan. It will be released in the U.S. by April or late March. Preliminary U.S. pricing is around $500.
