The 11th season of "Criminal Minds" did not feature much of Matthew Gray Gubler's Spencer Reid, but fans would be glad to know that he's set to return this month, as per Christian Today. In fact, Reid's Gubler is coming back from his trip to Las Vegas to take care of his sick mother, Diana, who was played by Jane Lynch.

When Reid returns, fans will get to see him get romantically involved with Cat Adams, who TV Line reports will be played by "Parks and Recreation" fan favorite, Aubrey Plaza. The actress is set to make a debut on the Jan. 13 episode, where she will go on a date with Reid. The date doesn't go as smoothly as planned, however, as she unexpectedly pulls a gun on him and forces him to save himself and a restaurant full of unsuspecting victims.

In December, Gubler sat down with Glamour to talk about the long-running show that spans 11 seasons.

"It's so bizarre it has been on for so long because in no way shape or form does it feel like that. It still feels like day two," the 35-year-old actor admitted. "Family is the only thing I can think of to sum it up. It’s a real honor. I love entertaining people, and that’s all I’ve ever wanted to do. The fact that I’ve gotten to do this for a long time is so awesome."

He went on to explain that "When you work this many hours together for this many years, you see each other more than your own families. Joe Mantegna is like my Los Angeles dad. Mandy Patinkin is so close to my heart."

"Shemar [Moore] is like my brother. A.J. [Cook] is like a sister. Paget [Brewster] is my best friend. I married her and introduced her to her husband," he said. Brewster, who played Supervisory Special Agent Emily Prentiss on the show, is married to Gubler's friend, Steve Damstra of the band Whirlwind Heat in real life.

Meanwhile, Plaza won't be the only one to guest star in the first 2016 episode of "Criminal Minds", as TV Line reports that "NCIS" and "24" star Marisol Nichols is set to reprise her role as FBI Agent Natalie Colfax, who will help the team in their investigation of murdered women.

"Criminal Minds" returns on Jan. 13 at 9/8c on CBS.
