'The Winds of Winter' Release Date: 3 Reasons Fans Are Angry With The Book's Delay; HBO Says Show Won't Affect Novel's Integrity

Many fans are looking forward to the release date of the sixth book of "A Song of Ice and Fire." It has been reported that George R.R. Martin wanted to release "The Winds of Winter" before "Game of Thrones" Season 6. Now, after over four years of waiting, to the dismay of many, the book has been delayed.
Martin updated his fans about the status of "The Winds of Winter" on his blog. "THE WINDS OF WINTER is not finished," he wrote. "Believe me, it gave me no pleasure to type those words. You're disappointed, and you're not alone. My editors and publishers are disappointed, HBO is disappointed, my agents and foreign publishers and translators are disappointed... but no one could possibly be more disappointed than me."
The New Mexican author expressed his yearning to finish the book. According to him, he wanted to be able to say "I have completed and delivered THE WINDS OF WINTER" before the last days of 2015. Unfortunately, the book is not done.
According to Fashion & Style, these are the three reasons fans are furious with the delay of "The Winds of Winter."
- HBO's hit series "GoT" might spoil the book - "Game of Thrones" Season 6 is scheduled to return in the small screens on April 24, 2016. Fans are reportedly worried that the show will spoil the anticipated book. However, it seems that there is nothing to worry about because the show and the book have diverged at this point. However, despite Martin's attempts to calm the fans there are still chances that the show will reveal at least a few of the upcoming storylines that will also appear in "The Winds of Winter."
- Fans are sick of Martin's excuses - One Reddit user pointed out that the 67-year old author is being unprofessional. His job is to work and finish the book, but it is as if he is just treating the long overdue novel as a hobby. On his blog, the celebrity author offered no excuses. "But I won't make excuses. There are no excuses. No one else is to blame," he wrote. "It's on me. I tried, and I am still trying."
- Fans are worried that Martin will pass away without finishing the series - Many are afraid that the series will be similar to "The Wheel of Time." Robert Jordan wrote the series but died at the age of 58 with still three books in the series unwritten, The Atlantic noted.
Meanwhile, despite the delay of "The Winds of Winter," HBO chairman Richard Plepler is confident that "GoT" showrunners David Benioff and Daniel Brett Weiss would "never do anything that would violate George's sense of the integrity of the story," Inquisitr reported.
