'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' Release Date & Trailer: Benicio Del Toro’s The Collector a No Show in Sequel? Actor Sets The Record Straight

News about the development of the sequel to the 2014 box office hit "Guardians of the Galaxy" is slowly making its rounds as production begins very soon. However, it seems that there's one character that may be left out of the galaxy this time around.
Screenrant reported that Benicio Del Toro's The Collector won't be appearing in the second iteration of the James Gunn-written and directed film.
"I don’t think so. They would have told me," Del Toro told Superhero Hype. "I do hope to play that character again at some point."
This may seem puzzling to a number of fans, as they may recall that one of the Infinity Stones are still in The Collector's possession. If Thanos is to get his hands on it and the rest of the Infinity Stones, which is most likely since that is the whole point of the Avengers waging war on him, there should be a face off between The Collector and Thanos or any of his minions soon, unless the writers decide to do the exchange off-screen.
For now, however, it seems that the Academy Award winner doesn't have a place yet in the "Guardians of the Galaxy" sequel, which script is already done, as per Gunn, who shared this tidbit via his official Facebook account back in June last year.
Speaking of Gunn, the director took to social media once again to share his devastation over the death of musical legend David Bowie, who passed away on January 10, just two days after his birthday, as he lost his battle with cancer.
"Just a very short while ago [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige and I were talking about a cameo role in Guardians Vol. 2, and he brought up Bowie’s name," Gunn wrote on his Facebook page. "I told him nothing in the world would make me happier, but I heard from common friends he wasn’t doing well."
We heard back that he was okay and it could possibly happen," he added on. "Who knows what that was about? But, for whatever reason, it made my Twitter revelation [that Bowie had died] more of a surprise."
Entertainment Weekly reported that the late artist was a "huge and omnipresent" influence in the 45-year-old director's life and career. Gunn admitted that it was Bowie's music that helped him through some of the darkest moments of his life, resulting to Bowie's artistry being deeply embedded in the director's personal history.
Bowie's influence on "Guardians of the Galaxy" was already apparent, as his song, "Moonage Daydream" was part of the original soundtrack. Gunn said that another Bowie song was to be included in the film's sequel, but was left in the cutting room floor.
The director is still determined to find a way to include the song. If it pushes through, this makes Bowie the first artist to appear on both films' soundtrack. Find Gunn's emotional tribute to Bowie below.
"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is set to be released on May 5, 2017.
