Smallville actress Laura Vandervoort is heading back to the world of superheroes, as Variety reports that she is set to appear in CBS' Supergirl. Of course, she isn't reprising her character as the original Supergirl, as that role now belongs to Melissa Benoist, but she will be playing a villain this time in the form of Indigo. Producers described Indigo as a strong-willed supercomputer who was sentenced to Fort Rozz after turning against the people of Krypton.

"She’s badass. She’s going to look awesome. Definitely not going to look just like Laura," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly. "Being one aspect of the Brainiac program, she comes in through computers, so Winn is actively involved in that episode. She has a very interesting backstory. She was one of the Fort Rozz prisoners, but how she came to be and how she ended up on the prison, and what she’s been doing on Earth is part of the fun and the surprise of the episode."

The 31-year-old actress is set to debut on Supergirl's 15th episode. However, she is not the first former Supergirl to grace the show. In fact, Helen Slater, who played the titular role in the 1984 Jeannot Szwarc-directed film, also appeared on the show as Kara and Alex Danvers' mother. What's more exciting for fans is that all three Supergirls will converge in an upcoming episode.

"There’s gonna be an episode coming up that’s gonna have Melissa, Laura, and Helen Slater all in the same episode. We’ll have three generations of Supergirl," Kreisberg told Variety. He also admitted that he loved the idea of "he next Supergirl, who’s still a little girl, out there watching this...we always consider ourselves the custodians of this leg of the journey, but these characters came before us and they’re gonna come after us, and we’re just the lucky ones who get to be at the wheel for this portion of the ride."

Meanwhile, Vandervoort isn't the only new face to grace the second half of the season. TV reports that soap star Jeff Branson, who appeared in The Young and the Restless, All My Children, and Guiding Light, is also expected to make an entrance as Master Jailer, the relentless Fort Rozz jail guard who would stop at nothing to recapture escapees and bring them to justice. The 38-year-old actor's other credits include 2000's Shaft and 2002's Wolves of Wall Street.

CBS' Supergirl airs on Mondays at 8 p.m.
