'Captain America: Civil War' Trailer & Cast: Director Talks Villains, Confirms No Red Hulk Appearance

"Captain America: Civil War" is going to be a crowded superhero film, with many comic book characters expectedly appearing in the upcoming summer movie. However, there's one character movie fans won't be seeing, even as the appearance of his alter ego was already announced.
Marvel director Joe Russo confirmed that the character of General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross will be in "Civil War" and his role, played by William Hurt, will be a crucial to the movie's story. IGN reported that the character is a well-known antagonist in the Hulk comic book series but, in the latest "Captain America" movie, Ross will be "savvier" and driven by his own prejudice against the superheroes. His presence is especially going to drive a wedge between the members of the Avengers.
Movie Pilot reported that Ross is actually a superhero himself, but this happened in the comic books. Introduced in the printed series in 2008, Ross was Red Hulk, an antagonist who eventually becomes part of "The Avengers."
However, when Russo spoke in a recent interview Comic Book Movie, he bluntly said that the villain Red Hulk is not appearing in "Captain America: Civil War." The director didn't completely shut down the idea though as he added, "There's always a chance at Marvel that you can see anything. [But] there's no Red Hulk in Civil War."
Russo clarified that, despite speculations to the movie's plot, "Captain America: Civil War" is not going to be a boring political film. "You go to see that movie [in theaters] and you start throwing your candy at the screen because it's not a movie that's very compelling to see," he told the press.
He also hinted that Captain America, played by Chris Evans, could be giving up his shield by the end of the film. "Captain America is a character who has suffered great lost. The journey that he goes on through Winter Soldier and Civil War is a journey back to himself and trying to decide whether or not his allegiance should be to himself and to the things that he holds dear," Russo stated further.
However, fans need not worry because Captain America -- and his alter-ego Steve Rogers -- will still be seen in "The Avengers: Infinity War."
"Captain America: Civil War" is coming to theaters May 6, 2016, while "The Avengers: Infinity War" is slated for a 2018 theater date. Both movies are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that attempts to tell separate stories of its superheroes, but the events in their lives are interconnected.
