Tom Clancy's 'The Division' Release Date & News: Map Won't Include Brooklyn During Launch -- What You Need to Know
- comments
The role-playing game (RPG) Tom Clancy's "The Division" is set in midtown Manhattan at the game's launch, despite its earlier trailers that showed scenes set in Brooklyn. It is because the environment better offers a lot of territory for an open-world RPG.
Polygon reveals that no other areas likely ruled out that are being added to the game later on. "The Division" will have a premium DLC promising program that contains "major expansions" to it. However, the setting in Brooklyn is still absent, which is a notable change from the first showcase of the game three years ago.
In addition, Magnus Jansen, the creative director of the game claims that there is a narrative reason for its absence in this version: New York is wiped out by the pandemic that cut off the mere interborough travel. Besides, midtown Manhattan feature is a "1-to-1 recreation" environment. "With the level of detail we have, doing Midtown Manhattan is a huge open-world experience and more than enough to sink your teeth into. It is a very sizable open-world game," he further explained.
"The Division" game's beta will go live on Jan. 28, which will be explored by territory players. They can also expect that this RPG will be launched on March 8 for Windows PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The creative director also adds that players can expect pretty much of the open-world game that will be released soon.
Meanwhile, LzyGmrs reports that when the game was featured at E3 in 2014, a lot of people said that it is a big game with multiple city boroughs that can be explored. Therefore, some people may question the decision that is made by Ubisoft Massive to remove Brooklyn, as well as whether gamers will see it in the future as a downloadable content.
It is noted, however, by Examiner.com that the editorial regarding the setting of the RPG will not be a problem for the game because it is packed with many things to do. Even if there are those gamers who are disappointed with the absence of Brooklyn in "The Division" game, New York borough has the potential to reveal some expansions than what were originally seen in the previous trailers.
The RPG has been originally planned to debut in 2015; however, it was delayed in last year's spring to this year's March. Ubisoft is currently developing the game with the assistance of other Ubisoft studios.
