The 2016 Volvo XC90 is on a roll lately, and we are not just talking about a drive around on the pavement. The new SUV from the Swedish automaker has been winning major awards left and right from different members of the auto industry, and for good reasons. Check out this list.

North American Truck/Utility of the Year

The XC90 also bagged one of the most prestigious awards in the auto industry and it's largely because of its modern features. The new Volvo SUV includes an engine option for a plug-in hybrid, which delivers 17 miles of zero-pollution driving for an overnight battery charging.

Apart from being the world's first modern seven-seat plug-in hybrid SUV, the XC90 also has a self-driving feature that enables the vehicle to stay in its lane and keep pace with the car in front of it, according to USA Today.

AutoGuide.com 2016 Utility Vehicle of the Year

In a press release, AutoGuide praised the new Volvo SUV for being innovative and for being "radically different" from other vehicles in its class. "The Volvo XC90 is really impressive, and one of the best things about it is that it's the unconventional pick for someone shopping this segment," said Jodi Lai, Managing Editor of AutoGuide.com. "This car looks great, it's practical, it drives amazingly, it has one of the best engines and interiors in the industry, and it has a ton of safety features and lot of great technology."

Euro NCAP 2015 Best in Class

The XC90 took home the NCAP's 2015 Best in Class awards for both the Large Off-Road and Overall Performance categories. The SUV scored excellent in the Safety Assist and adult occupant protection departments, the News Wheel noted.

"The XC90 embodies everything that Volvo Cars stands for, and this is further proof of our continuing leadership in the field of both active and passive safety systems," said Jan Ivarsson, acting director, Volvo Cars Safety Center. "Our vision is that by 2020 no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car."

2016 Motor Trend SUV of the Year

The XC90 is equipped with Volvo's "Scalable Product Architecture," while sporting a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that's both supercharged and turbocharged that can deliver 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. It can also accelerate from zero to 60 MPH in 6.7 seconds. It's a captivating work of art, inside and out, as Motor Trend puts it.

Yahoo Autos Ride of the Year

After testing out various vehicles for a couple of days, the XC90 also won the hearts from Yahoo Autos based on consumer appeal, technological advances, cutting-edge safety technology, style and overall value. Yahoo handed out its ride of the year award for a car that people would actually buy and not just a few car enthusiasts.
