"Jane the Virgin" star Gina Rodriguez is acting like a fairy godmother to one of her many fans, thanks to social media. The 2015 Golden Globe Award-winning actress received a tweet from one of her fans, Jessica Casanova, who expressed her desire to wear Rodriguez's Golden Globes dress to prom. Rodriguez was wearing a navy Zac Posen dress during the awards ceremony earlier this month, Entertainment Weekly reports, but admits that she does not own the dress. She does, however, own the black Badgley Mischka number she wore during the 2015 Golden Globe Awards, during which she won the award for Best Actress in a Television Series for her portrayal of Jane Villanueva in "Jane the Virgin."
"Where do you live? I only own my first Globes dress the one from last year...maybe we can make this happen," Rodriguez responded to Casanova. "Let’s talk about it. I’m reaching out."
Meanwhile, on the homefront, The Los Angeles Times reports that Rodriguez is currently dating another comedian in the form of "Parks and Recreation" actor Ben Schwartz following her breakup with "Revenge" actor Henri Esteve last September. Rodriguez and Schwartz have been spotted together, but the "Jane the Virgin" star has not released any official statement about her relationship with the actor.
Rodriguez has also been actively participating in the conversation about the lack of diversity in this year's Academy Awards, and even began the "Movement Mondays" campaign online to promote and showcase Latin American talents on social media.
"With all this Oscar Talk and lack of diversity I decided to start a movement and speak from the perspective of a Latina American who desires to see more Latinos on screen," the 31-year-old actress wrote on her Instagram. "There are 55 million Latinos in this country and although we all come from various backgrounds our unity can make a movie explode at the box office or a tv show soar to the highest viewers possible. The better these projects do financially, the more money they will spend on putting Latinos In blockbuster films as leads in tv shows, etc. My solution is this, support is needed. Right now there isn't one Latino that can Greenlight a movie. That means no studio will put their money behind a Latino face as a lead of a movie because they don't believe we can make their money back."
In other "Jane the Virgin" news, The Wrap reports that the show is getting an addition to its cast in the form of Ana de la Reguera, who will play the role of Paola, Rogelio de la Vega's new assistant. De la Reguera will be appearing in three upcoming episodes of "Jane the Virgin" and will apparently harbor an "interesting past" that she makes sure to keep secret from everyone. Fans might remember De la Reguera from HBO's "Eastbound & Down", "The Blacklist," and " Narcos."
"Jane the Virgin" airs on Mondays at 9 p.m. on The CW.
