'The Flash' & 'Supergirl' Crossover Confirmed: Barry Allen Heads to National City on March 28

Crossovers aren't a new thing in the world of The CW's "Arrow" and "The Flash," but an upcoming journey will put Barry Allen in another superhero-filled world. According to IGN, "The Flash" will crossover to CBS' "Supergirl" for the first time come March 28.
"We are so incredibly excited to announce something that we have dreamed of happening since we starting making Supergirl—The Flash and Supergirl are teaming up!" Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, who executively produce both shows, said, as per Comicbook. "We want to thank Grant Gustin for making the time to come visit (on top of his already immense workload) and all of the folks at CBS, The CW, Warner Bros. and DC for working this out. And finally thanks to the fans and journalists who have kept asking for this to happen. It is our pleasure and hope to create an episode worthy of everyone's enthusiasm and support."
While this would be the first time fans would see Flash and Supergirl together on screen, the two have already teamed up for a Variety editorial back in May 2015, together with Berlanti, who is also poised to set up DC's "Legends of Tomrrow."
At the time, Berlanti admitted that despite CBS being a sister network of The CW, a crossover may not yet be in the works, saying that CBS may want to keep Supergirl off limits. He admitted that as a fan, he would love to see a crossover.
"I think in success, all things are possible," Berlanti said at the time. "But there's a lot that would have to happen before everybody might say yes to that."
It seems that enough time has passed and all the tasks have been checked off the list, as the crossover will finally take place next month. The next question is, how will the crossover happen? Will The Flash lend a hand to Supergirl in working a difficult case? Will there be a villain who will become a common denominator between the two superheroes? Or will the crossover be more in line with their origins as metahumans?
One thing is for sure, though, as the A.V. Club reports that the crossover will serve both the fans and the shows well in terms of ratings. It will not only most likely see a spike in ratings, but "The Flash" may be instrumental in landing "Supergirl" a second season. With the upcoming "Legends of Tomorrow," it's rather important for the shows like "Supergirl" to stay on air, as it will be the launchpad for more DC shows such as the highly anticipated "Legends of Tomorrow."
For now, though, fans can catch "Supergirl" on Mondays at 8 p.m. on CBS, and "The Flash" on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on The CW. "The Flash" visits "Supergirl" this March 28.
