Celine Dion Breaks Her Silence About Husband's Death: 'He Protected Me From Day 1'

The "My heart will go on" singer has finally broken her silence about her husband's death. It was definitely an emotional memorial service for Husband René Angélil, where Dion and her son René-Charles were seen trying to hold back tears in many occasions.

According to a report by Today, the Canadian singer and her family were at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada to pay tribute to her late husband's death after a long battle against cancer.

"This is my home away from home. At the same time I'm supposed to feel extremely comfortable being home and right now I'm not sure how comfortable I feel," said Dion, who had also lost her brother from cancer. "I feel his love in this room. I feel his strength and his warmth being reflected in all of you. René always surrounded me with the best people who believed in us and always worked so hard on our behalf."

Dion also revealed how her late husband protected her. She said that her success would not have been possible if it was not for Angélil. The singer has become one of the most recognizable voices after she had a chance to sing the theme song of the "Titanic" movie. Dion said that Angélil, who was also her manager, have always been by her side to look after her. He has guided her career until she reached international superstardom.

"I was never part of any of the meetings that he had where he had to say yes or no. He protected me from Day 1 to for the rest of my life, I am pretty sure of that," Dion said in her speech, as gathered by ABC.

Angélil died on Jan. 14 at the age of 73 in their Las Vegas estate they shared with their three lovely children. After two days, Dion's brother also died from cancer. This year did not start good for the singer after losing two of her favorite people in a matter of days.

The funeral was held at the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, which is the same church where the two got married in 1994. It was made public and almost 700 hundred people were there to mourn with the family.

Friends and families have described the late music mogul as a kind-hearted man and a devoted husband to Celine. He was also a wonderful father who made sure they get the best of everything.
