'Winds of Winter' Release Date: Neil Gaiman Helping George RR Martin Edit WoW? [Rumors]

It seems George R.R. Martin fans will have to wait longer before "Winds of Winter" becomes available, as Youth Health is reporting that the book is still in development and will most likely hit bookstores before the seventh season of "Game of Thrones," which is most likely next year.
"Winds of Winter' is not finished," Martin wrote on his official LiveJournal account in January. "Believe me; it gave me no pleasure to type those words. You're disappointed, and you're not alone. My editors and publishers are disappointed, HBO is disappointed, my agents and foreign publishers and translators are disappointed...but no one could possibly be more disappointed than me."
If Martin is at a roadblock with his writing, however, it seems that his good friend Neil Gaiman has come to the rescue. Santa Fe New Mexican reports that Gaiman is in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where George R.R. Martin is also currently at. One theory is that the two renowned authors may have met up to discuss the future of "The Winds of Winter." Nonetheless, the sixth season of "Game of Thrones" can keep fans satiated as it premieres on HBO on April 24.
On the Gaiman forefront, however, it seems that the writer is taking his famous creation, Sandman, to the big screen. Crossmap reports that as per actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who is set to direct the film, the movie is indeed happening. In fact, he is working with David S. Goyer, who will serve as executive producer.
"I hesitate to definitively say when it might go before the cameras, but the one thing different between other iterations and ours is that Neil Gaiman has been in the room with us and is a vital part of the team," Goyer told Deadline. "We have a draft Warner is very happy with and we're moving forward, knock on wood."
Gordon-Levitt also opened up about the project during a recent Reddit AMA, writing, "Been doing a lot of work with David Goyer and Jack Thorne, working on the screenplay. We've been doing our meetings at the DC office, which is a frickin' rad place to work. Also just had a great conversation last week with David and Mr. Gaiman. Neil has been extremely big hearted with me, and he's the one I want to please most."
While there hasn't been any official word on the cast, rumors have it that "Crimson Peak" and "Avengers" star Tom Hiddleston is being considered by Gaiman himself for the role of Morpheus. Either way, fans of both Martin and Gaiman will have to wait a little longer before "Winds of Winter" and "Sandman" gets released.
